Matthew 6 - Part 1
Matthew 6:6-8
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
I chose these verses because it is a reminder that you should not be looking for public recognition when you do good works because then you are no longer doing it for God but for yourself and that when we pray, we should keep it clear and concise rather than trying for long prayers because, like it says in the end, our Father knows what we need before we ask him, so we need only ask him.
I remember we talked about something like that during a bible study.
ReplyDelete"does something like a selfless actions exist?"
Cause in the end........whatever we do...
there's always an tiny aspect of it that is to our advantage...
I remember that discussion.. I think. What I meant was that we shouldn't be doing it with the goal of showing off to other people in mind and that, to the best of our abilities, it should be used to praise and glorify God rather than as a tool to make ourselves seem super spiritual.
ReplyDeleteI love this verse too :)
ReplyDeleteand yeh I do remember talking about it in Sunday school too...and totally know what the two of you mean!
As humans, it is difficult to be 100% selfless...JUST because we are sinful! So yes LeChYe, I think youre right: we have to try to the best of our abilities. I think the closer we are to God, the more selfless we can be. When you think about it, all other religions are about us us us (from what I understand, buddhism is about achieving inner peace, a lot of other religions are about getting into heaven: if you do good, you will get into heaven, you need to convert a certain number of ppl etc etc)
For us, we are saved if we accept that we are saved! how amazing is that!? we dont need to do anything...only because we CANT do anything (nothing we do would be enough!)...so when we truly understand this gift from God, we would be moved to what is right, FOR HIM...because He loves us so much, we are moved to do things for Him.
That's the way I see it :) I really feel like being a follower of Jesus is the only way one can be as close to "selfless" as humanly possible.
Just a quick note for Buddhism, its more like you are a god yourself because you have powers, but because you're so conflicted, you can't use those powers until you find your inner peace.
ReplyDeleteBut I get what you mean.
Lol! thanks for the explanation...wow it's complicated! i should read more about different religions so i dont say the wrong things!
